I compile and verify mortgage servicer recast policies from primary documents, and I built the calculator that prices a recast against the two things it is actually competing with. I am not a mortgage broker, a lender, or a financial adviser, and nothing on this site is advice.
Why this exists
In August 2026, every page that ranked for “mortgage recast” in the United States was one of two things. Either a large publisher’s article with no calculator — Forbes Advisor stale since November 2023, Experian since 2021, Credit Karma since 2022 — or a brand-new exact-match domain with no named author, no dates, no sources and no Wayback history at all.
The lender data across the whole niche contradicted itself. One tool claimed Wells Fargo requires a $20,000 minimum; Wells Fargo’s own page says $10,000 and no fee. Another claimed Chase charges $150 with a $10,000 minimum; Chase’s own page says no minimum is required. Both figures were presented without a source, to people making a five-figure decision.
And not one calculator in the field computed the thing that actually decides the question: what happens if you pay the same lump sum and simply keep your payment. On the canonical case that is worth $109,736 of interest and pays the loan off seven years earlier. Leaving it out is not an oversight. It is what a funnel looks like.
What this site does differently
Sourced
24 servicers, each figure carrying the servicer’s own page or fee schedule, each row dated. Where five of them publish nothing, the page says so by name and gives the number to call.
Honest about the math
Recasting almost always costs more total interest than paying the same lump sum and keeping the payment. That sentence is in the primary output, not buried in a footnote.
Ungated
No email, no phone, no account. Results are instant. The demand for your contact details is the tell that a tool is a lead form wearing a calculator’s clothes.
Complete
Eligibility gate, escrow kept separate, PMI crossing, break-even, refinance priced at a live rate, full amortization schedule with CSV export. Some competitor has each of these. None has all of them.
How it pays for itself
Advertising. Three manual placements with reserved heights and fixed positions — no auto ads, nothing that moves the page while you read it. No lead generation, no referral fees, and no commercial relationship with any servicer named on this site.
Corrections
The servicer table was last checked on 27 August 2026 and is reviewed quarterly, and on any published fee-schedule change. Fee schedules change without notice. If a figure here is wrong, send the document — not an opinion, the document — and it will be corrected and re-dated. The full methodology →
